Tour of Esslingen

We took a walking tour of Esslingen, Germany to learn about the history of this adorable town. Danny and I decided that we wanted to live here in the future (okay maybe just dream about doing it).
It consists of 3 churches. Two were from the gothic era.
This town was not bombed in WWII and therefore all of the buildings had character.

This gothic church took 130 years to build.
Here is a piece of the wall that used to surround the city.
This is where monks would hang out and garden.

The bridge was built between the two towers for a couple of reasons. First, there used to be an apartment in one, and the bell ringer would walk across it to ring the bell. Second, one of the towers started to lean, so they added buttresses and two bridges between them for support. There is only this one left today.

You can see the Esslingen castle in this picture below.

We went inside this church. The organ was playing as we walked around enthralled at the stained-glass windows and beautiful architecture.

These stained-glass windows are some of the oldest in Germany.

They call this little Venice because of the houses that serve as a bridge.

Here was an old grinder for grain.

We then learned of the ghost of Esslingen that is carved on the side of a fountain.

We enjoyed the "show" at noon---the astronomical clock and glockenspiel.

...and there were musicians in several places making it definitely feel like a European atmosphere!
We enjoyed the farmer's market and some amazing gelato before leaving!

...we stopped at a cafe as well. Eli is in this picture waiting for our food. Due to Covid, we ordered at the window and ate it outside.
