Mallorca, Spain
It was an overcast day when we landed, but the view was still glorious. Seeing palm trees at the airport gave me so much excitement and joy! We then waited for a shuttle to take us to pick up our adorable rental car.
We then took off and headed off for our first adventure. We traveled across the island to ride horses on the beach. Along the way, I snapped some photos of the scenic route. I loved seeing the mountains in the distance.
The beach was beautiful. I forgot that it can be painful to ride a horse! I still enjoyed it immensely and couldn't get over the views!
We then drove to and checked in at our resort. We all got full body massages, some snacks, and checked out the beach. It was once again...beautiful. Oh how I had missed the beach!
In pre and post covid times, this would be a great spot to take the family! The main pool was open, but most everything else was closed.
This was the snack/bar area.
That night we got cleaned up for dinner!
We found a huge snail on the way back to our room.
The next day, we drove to be a part of a hiking and caving adventure. Along the way I took some snapshots. The landscape was too beautiful that I couldn't help myself.
One thing we learned is that Mallorca is known for having around 3,000 windmills around the island. They are everywhere! They were once used to extract water and grind grain.
When we got to our location, they gave us backpacks to wear that had our wet suits in them. We first had to hike a distance to get to the caves.
It was a beautiful hike and we even saw wild goats. There were wild goats all over the island. From what I understood, they were brought to the island for hunting purposes. Further research showed that Phoenicians brought them over in 2,000 B.C. People now come to the island to hunt them for sport.
More goats!
This was the first sighting of the cave we were going to swim to. Unfortunately, the waters were too choppy to get to this one, so our guide took us to a different one.We were originally supposed to swim through the water pictured below. Even the picture shows how choppy it was.
We then climbed around and entered a different cave. Inside, we even swam in the clear water in wet suits. I could feel how cold it was around my ankles! It felt like ice.
After we left that cave, we hiked back aways and climbed down this cliff to enter another cave. There wasn't water in this one to swim in, but we climbed through so many nooks and crannies, it was definitely still an adventure! I was incredibly grateful for my helmet as we scooted through some tight spots. I definitely felt my age!
After we got back to the car, we drove an hour away for a park of more amazing views.
There were cactus/cacti all over the island.
On the way back to the hotel, we found a cute little town and stopped for coffee.
We were so appreciative to have a small car on Majorca!
Back at the resort, we enjoyed the beach again.
We got dressed up for dinner one more time.
The next and final day started with us checking out of the hotel and driving about an hour up a mountain. This is a popular spot for tourists because of the absolutely breathtaking scenery. Bikers were everywhere and I did not envy their ride up the mountain. It was worth every bit of anxiety I felt in a tiny car on a tiny windy road (hairpin turns over and over) for these views. Just check out the pics. Bikers everywhere!
First sighting of amazingness....
Are we going to fit?!
See the hairpin turn?
There was a cute lighthouse with a cafe.
Check out that teal water!
All of the views took my breath away. God's creation is magnificent.
We then drove to Palma, the capital and largest city of Mallorca. We spent the rest of the day admiring the huge cathedral, eating in outdoor seating at a restaurant (it felt so good to eat at a restaurant!---it has been so long!), shopping in some souvenir shops, seeing the sights, riding in a horse-drawn carriage, and eating some amazing gelato! We flew out later that night. I was so grateful for this amazing trip and for the fact that these ladies signed me up for things I might never have done on my own. Mallorca is breathtaking and I recommend it to anyone and everyone!
