Our New Home is Ready!
I have a lot of real plants around the room--we'll see how long they last! I only have a couple that are fake.
This next picture was added in January 2021. I changed out the black and white picture for this:
My new table is finally in use! The last picture of it was taken in my garage in NC after Danny finished it. I was happy to see it in a new setting. It is also getting great use!The succulents are my favorites of all of my new plants. The kids call them my babies ;).
This is a fake plant that I found on Amazon and absolutely love that nothing happened to it on the move here!
Our balcony...we hope to get some seating out there in the spring. Our building has the very best views of the city---especially when the buildings are twinkling at night! I hear that the New Year's fireworks are awesome to view from here!
Here are the hexagon shelves Danny made me back in NC. I love how they turned out! He actually made me 4, but one was broken in the move. It worked out, though, because I don't think I would have put a 4th one up.
Can you spot the bench that Danny made me, too?
I also love the coat hanging area.I took off the cabinet doors and added contact paper to spruce up the kitchen. It added such a fun vibe.
Yes, that is a laundry hamper in my kitchen. We live on the 3rd floor and I didn't want to take recycling out every single day, and I also wanted something pretty if I was going to store it in my kitchen. Walking around IKEA, I spotted this hamper and voila, I had my answer! I put a trash bag in it and it has been perfect! The boys just grab the trash bag and then toss and sort the recycling outside. We also can reuse the trash bag over and over.
We also have very shallow sinks, so Danny installed this kitchen faucet so that I can rinse large pans better.
I redecorated Eli's room to be more sophisticated for him. I let him pick out a comfy chair and wallpaper and I found the lamp to go with it. We also bought him a new bedspread and sheets. We purchased this all in the states before we moved, and to our horror the wallpaper ran out! It was a nightmare getting more that actually matched and didn't have a different shade, but eventually we finished it. (the 4th picture shows the missing strip)
The bright sunlight is kind of ruining the picture, but you get the idea.
Danny then made this shelf for him for his books (he made it at the end of December--this picture was added later)
Eli and Embry have separate rooms, but they are adjoining. Our place is considered 3 1/2 bedrooms because of this. We didn't put the boys together because Evan gets up so much earlier than Eli for school, and he also had an itsy bitsy room in NC. This was actually a fantastic decision and Eli and Embry are getting along great. I have ordered a rod and curtain to go in the doorway to give them just a bit more privacy.
Embry has had this shabby chic decor since she was a baby, and I still love it! The play kitchen was the first major woodworking project that Danny did. She has spent hours playing with it over the last 5-6 years.
Evan has a huge room! His room was redecorated a few years ago to a more industrial look. "There's so much room for activities!" (movie quote some of you may know)
and new pillows at Christmas:
I'm not quite sure what to do with this corner yet. Any ideas? I think I might put another plant on the table, but Danny thinks I have too many plants! I'm not quite sure that is possible...
The laundry room is a hot mess, and will probably stay that way ;). We bought this Ikea cabinet for storage, and the cute bin on top is to hold paper towels, toilet paper, etc. I don't plan on putting anymore money into this room (at least here) since I can shut the door!
My shoe box organization on top of the dryer is for clean and dirty masks.I absolutely love my new German cordless vacuum.
Here is the kid's bathroom. I also ordered a wooden cabinet (see below pic) to put in here for their towels. We have no linen closets.
Our bedroom is not quite the decor I desire, but I will slowly change it over the next few years. It will work for now!
Ignore the white chair. I love it, and I'm not quite sure what to do with it.
These plant holders are going strong after three moves. Danny made these out of pallet wood for my farmhouse decor and I hung mason jars with flowers. Because I have changed my decor, I wasn't too sad when one of the hooks broke in the move and we had to replace them to a more modern choice. I also love my new hanging vases and plants. I am beginning to like my mixture of mid-century, farmhouse, and boho...I'm slowly pulling it all together.
I love my new little mid-century desk and chair!
The legs of the chair were way too light and completely clashed with the desk. Danny sanded them and stained them to match better.
All of the bedrooms have built-ins. They don't use closets here. Because these apartments were made for the American military, though, we have ONE closet in the master, and I have claimed it! I also made it a linen closet. There is very little space for clothes, though, so I literally got rid of over half of my clothes. I'm telling you---it was so freeing! If you haven't downsized your closet, do it!
Our bathroom
I love how our windows open two different ways here! We love letting the fresh air in....when the kids aren't home because they are so noisy. It also helps when we set off fire alarms the first month we move in....
This gym space is in our locker downstairs. I love having this locker for storage and for working out!
