A Gorgeous Day for a Walk

We live on a hill that overlooks the city. We can even walk to downtown. Right outside of our base are vineyards on every hillside surrounding us. To get home, we wind through roads of vineyards and beautiful views. Right after we moved in, I was surprised to see that the vineyards changed colors in the fall. I had no idea! Then crazy happened over the last couple of weeks and I never got to snap a photo except for this one (below) when I was sitting at a light. The leaves are now dropping like crazy...in the vineyards and on the beautiful trees. We took a walk on Saturday for it was so beautiful outside. I was able to catch pictures of what was left of the vineyards for this season. We wound down through the vineyards and ended up at the river that you can see in the pictures from a distance. We enjoyed a stroll along the river for awhile. Danny and I estimate that we walked around 7 miles total.

One thing I have learned about the German culture, is that they are ALWAYS outdoors. They have bike and walking paths literally everywhere, and on the weekends they are full of people. They have a saying that there is "no bad weather, just bad dressing."  I love this part of the culture, and I look forward to being more like them and taking advantage of all this outdoor area has to offer.

While we were worn out when we got back, we loved the beauty and fresh air. I can't wait for Embry to be a bit better at her bike so that we can enjoy bike outings as well.

baby plants :)
This view was SPECTACULAR just 2 weeks ago. The fall leaves are amazing here.

Can you spot the swan through the trees?
Some people call these the "stairs of death".  It doesn't look like a big hill in the picture, but if you stand down by the river and look up, the stairs look like they are going straight up. If you look at the 2nd picture closely, you can see them and how steep they really are.
