My New 6th Grade Classroom

I had 4 working days to set up my new classroom. I have never set up a room so fast. I had meetings and had to stop so many times because I am a “newbie” so my favorite times to work were in the evenings and on the weekend. I was sooo exhausted for the first day of school but it at least looked ready. Since then, I have slowly gotten accustomed to the new curriculum, new routines, and new age group. This job was truly an answer to prayers for our family because not only am I at the same school as two of my kids, I also have the same holiday breaks as my kids.

The pics above and below are what the room looked like the day I moved in. I have a ton of teaching stuff, so it took a good 24 hours to get everything unpacked.
I can’t even tell you how excited I was to find these hidden shelves behind the whiteboards!
Here’s the room after I got all unpacked. It was now time to add some decor and color. It’s a brand new school, so I am only allowed to staple/tape on bulletin boards.
Check out how many boxes I unloaded!! Teacher hoarding is a real thing—-especially when you never know what grade you will teach next!!!
Eli and Embry came in one evening to help hang the better-than-paper on the boards. It took us about 4 hours!! Eli says he has a new appreciation for what teachers do.

I added some cutsie things and it started to look even better.

I love my new spinning wheel!

Meet the teacher happened on this day, and I scurried to make it look like this.

I even hung paper in the hallway the last few minutes.
I reused my starburst gift idea from last year due to time.
I got a few more things done over the weekend before school started. We do Jolly Rancher wars for tables.

I absolutely love my charging dock.
It’s time for the first day of school!

I also started doing morning bins this year. I’m currently doing STEM bins for the first 15 minutes of school. They really like them.

As the week went on, I got my objectives and some mindset posters hung up.

During the second week of school, I decided to order mailboxes. Unfortunately they wouldn’t fit on my counter when they came in, so I flipped them vertically and they fit perfectly under my teacher desk.

I finally got my schedule hung the second week as well. These are all things I usually have done before school starts, but this year I had to do a little at a time.
I also love my new magnetic rod to hang anchor charts.
It’s slowly coming along. I still need to hang some things (like a data wall and helpful math charts), but I’m taking it a week at a time! I also hung clear pocket folders in the hallway and my Leader in Me board is up with personal mission statements.
