Rothenburg ob der Tauber

Rothenburg is well-known for its Christmas markets and people flock here every year. It is a medieval town that is simply idyllic and makes a perfect backdrop for Christmas. There are even puzzles made of the above picture--it's where 2 streets split. We didn't get to go at Christmas. There are no trains that go there, and Danny was gone the weekends we wanted to go. I didn't feel comfortable doing the driving (about an hour and a half) and facing the crowds with 3 kids...and during a pandemic. So, we went on Saturday! The town lived up to the hype. It is indeed beautiful. It is is surrounded by city walls and all of the buildings and town gives a medieval feel as well. Even though the Christmas market is well over, there are still Christmas shops to go through and even a Christmas museum.

I loved all of the gold signs hanging in the front of the stores. The sun made them shimmer.

We finally tried some schneeballen (snowballs). We had seen them before in Heidelberg. They were everywhere in Rothenburg. I was hoping they would be soft like donuts, but they were crispy instead.

Daniel has a store here!

More snowballs!

We found a great spot for a view of the town.

Bad lighting, but you get what you get when someone else snaps your photo.
We ate lunch at a German restaurant and then we decided we needed waffles. They were huge!

Embry and I found a theater and walked next to the wall for a bit.

Before heading out, we found the covered bridge.
