Belleau Wood

Danny had the opportunity to be a part of the Belleau Wood Ceremony in France.  This ceremony commemorates the anniversary of the Battle of Belleau Wood during WWI, in which the Marine Corps fought alongside the US Army, French, and British soldiers against the Germans who were trying to push to Paris.
This is an old hunting lodge that was damaged during the battle.
The woods in Belleau, where some of the fiercest fighting took place, has been turned into a cemetery that is ran by the American Battle Monuments Commission.  The building is the memorial chapel.
This was an old French barn where the iconic devil dog fountain resides.
This is the Devil Dog fountain.  This fountain is well known throughout the Marine Corps, and every year, Marines come to take a drink out of it, just like Marines did during the Battle of Belleau Wood.  Legend says that it adds 10-years to your life.

Walking in the woods of Belleau, you can still see the fighting positions.
The vast wheat fields the Marines had to cross against German machine guns.

Bar 1775, though it's namesake is the year the Marine Corps was formed, it's named 1775 for the year the bar opened.  Because of the name, Marines always like stopping in for a drink.
The actual Devil Dog fountain in which the Marines drank from during the battle of Belleau Wood.  The water is no longer drinkable.
