The kids keep accidentally splashing water on our new cabinet as they walk from the shower. It is oiled only, so we ordered polyurethane to try to save the piece. I oiled it first, and then let it sit for 2 weeks. Danny then put poly on it and he also put poly on our shoe cabinet. Evan bled sharpie onto our kitchen table awhile back as well, and I had scrubbed it until poly came off of the table too. So I also fixed the table as well.
With apartment living, we don't have a garage to work in. We moved it to the hall, opened all of the windows, and got to work.
You can see the spots on the table where I even rubbed off the stain. We don't have that color of stain here, so we decided to just go over it with poly for protection, and then we'll sand it down and deal with it in the future.
