Danny found these gorgeous and exotic pieces of wood at a local lumber co. We then sat down and designed the cutting boards by coming up with a pattern and measurements. He also colored a picture of the designs we discussed.
He first used a joiner at his friend's house to ensure that the wood was straight, and then used his table saw to cut strips. He then glued the strips together.
Afterwards, he used his planer to ensure that the boards were smooth and flat. Using his miter saw, he then chopped off the rough edges.
After that, he sanded them until they were incredibly smooth. At one point, he sprayed water on them to bring up any rough grains, and then sanded them again.
Lastly, he used several coats of butcher block oil and let it dry in between each coat. When he applied the oil, they went from dull to shimmering and beautiful!
