A New Homemade Shed
We had a small plastic shed for the boy's bikes to ensure that they weren't pulling bikes out in our very tight garage and scratching up vehicles. They ride them almost everyday. Plus, we are low on storage at this house, and getting one more thing out of the garage will allow us both to be able to park in it. The shed we used previously (shown below) was getting too small and a hinge had stopped working. Evan's bike couldn't even fit in it horizontally, but had to be put in diagonally. I knew we had to be strategic about a shed, too, because if we have a shed in our yard, the lawn crew would no longer mow and housing would make us put up a fence (fence=we mow ourselves). I figured that we could get away with not getting a fence and still having them mow, if we built one up against the house. I drew Danny the picture below and asked him to make us a shed that fit our dimensions to hold not only bikes, but also our green lawn chairs... and away he went! Over the last 2 weeks, this shed was constructed. It is a beauty!
The dimensions ended up being 8ft x 4ft x 5ft---so even bigger than I had drawn.
He used treated boards for the bottom (the boards that would touch the dirt) in order to prevent rot and decay.
He then put a cedar-colored sealant on it just in time for Hurricane Michael to pass through. It did its job and the water beaded up on the wood.
