Slovenia

We spent Memorial Day weekend in Lake Bled and Ljubljana, Slovenia. It was supposed to be a 6 1/2 hour drive that turned into a 10 1/2 hour drive and we showed up well into the night. The next morning, we got e-bikes from the hotel (Eli and Embry weren't big enough so they rode normal bikes) and rode around Lake Bled. I could not get over the aqua color of the water. It was so fantastic. We had great weather, and even a wonderful breeze as we rode around the lake. They had boat races going on all day, so it was pretty fun to watch. Embry never hit any pedestrians either, so that was a win for us!

The pics below were of the hotel we stayed at. It felt like we were in a log home. I only snapped one photo of the inside, and that was of the nook that Eli and Embry slept in.

Later, we drove to the castle to get some even more spectacular views of the lake.

Next, we headed to a gorge nearby. Before we began the hike, we had lunch and tried kremsnita cake. The gorge ended up being about a 30-40 minute hike (flat) and then an hour back (uphill for about 20 minutes). We were exhausted, but we really enjoyed seeing the beauty of the gorge.

After the uphill part on the way back, we rewarded ourselves at a small stand and got popsicles and ice cream.
The big teenager was tired.
That night, we drove into Ljubljana (an hour from Lake Bled). We had no agenda and enjoyed the next day just walking around. We came upon a burger festival, found the different bridges the town is known for (triple bridge, butcher's bridge, and dragon bridge), saw an old army barracks that people turned into graffiti art, rode a funicular up to the castle, and toured the castle. We took breaks for touristy shopping, fun drinks, gelato, and then enjoyed a relaxing dinner after resting. We traveled home the next day hoping it wouldn't take 10 1/2 hours, and we were pleasantly surprised that it only took 7!

The castle sits above the city.

We ate at Foculus the first night we came in.

The city if known for dragons.
