Morocco, Africa

We flew to Morocco for the first week of Christmas break! When we got to the airport, it was freezing. There was snow on the ground and it was almost in the single digits. When we touched ground in Marrakesh, we ripped off our coats and jumped for joy for the 60-70 degree weather!

Our driver picked us up and took us to the Riad where we were going to stay for the night.

The boys stayed in a room on the roof that was kind of like a fancy tent.
We had this room by the courtyard.

We ate at a rooftop restaurant that night and the food was delicious.

My pumpkin soup had popcorn in it! It was the best pumpkin soup I had ever had.

Danny and the boys had some octopus of some sort.

My eldest settled for a burger. When in Africa, he gets a burger.
We checked out Jemaa el-Fnaa, the main square in Marrakesh.

The next morning we had a walking tour of the city.

We checked out the Jewish market. Embry was worried about the "poor" chickens.

Hooves thrown on the floor....

We then checked out the Bahia Palace. It had beautiful detail in every ceiling and archway.

Snake charming... and monkeys!

We then left with our guide and drove 4-5 hours towards the desert. Here were sights along the way.

We stopped at another Riad for the night.

The next day we got up and drove another 4-5 hours to get to our destination in the desert. We had some fun stops along the way.

Once we reached our destination, we rode camels for an hour to get to our campsite.

Our camp was really neat and we had a great time eating and sitting around a campfire. It got to be frigid, though! I don't like the cold and couldn't wait for the sun to come back up!

We enjoyed watching the sunrise, and then we took ATVs on the dunes. This became a huge favorite of the kids!

We then hopped back in the car for a very long ride to Fes. We loved stopping by a forest to see wild monkeys.

After arriving in Fes and getting a good night's sleep, we had a city tour for most of the day.

This was the Jewish area of the city. We also got to see a lot of the markets and how they make ceramics. Embry loved learning how! We also got to see a lot of other neat sights including a tannery.

Morocco was a fabulous trip and we learned so much!
