My Belated 40th Birthday in Malta!
For my belated 40th, I asked to go on a girl's trip to Malta once school lets out. My sister-in-law, Sherrie, flew in for it and my friend Erin came along as well. It was the most fun and rejuvenating trip! After a very busy end of the school year, this trip was exactly what I needed. James flew into Germany with Sherrie as well and he hung out with Danny and the kids while we were gone.
As we flew into Malta, this is the view we had. It was definitely not green like in Germany!
As our taxi driver took us to the hotel, we saw this neat looking Holiday Inn.
Here's our resort from our balcony.
After walking around the resort, we headed to the spa for massages and then afterwards we lounged by the pool.
The next morning after breakfast, we took a taxi to the town of Valletta. It was the neatest town and I had issues narrowing the pictures down. We toured a church there, enjoyed a long and peaceful lunch, watched a cannon ceremony and did a lot of sightseeing. There was a lot of history in this town and it offered some amazing views as well.
The UK owned Malta until the 1960s so there was a lot of UK influence in what we saw. The taxi driver said that the largest amount of tourists come from the UK as well.
I ordered some Maltese dips to try.
When we got back, we lounged by the pool again.
We even had fireworks that night!
We decided we were hungry too late in the evening and the hotel restaurants were closed, so we wandered off the property to find some food. We settled for pizza and I got a bread thing with spinach in it (which I didn't prefer).
The next day, we were picked up at our hotel and taken to the north side of the island where we took a boat to the island of Gozo. There we took a quad tour all over the island. It was such a neat day---Gozo is only about 8-9 miles long, so we saw most of the island. We saw amazing churches, beautiful views, looked at fig trees and fennel stems, swam in the sea fully clothed, looked at salt pans, ate a yummy lunch, tried prickly cactus and fig foods, and simply enjoyed our day!
The rocks hurt my feet so bad so I crawled/swam out to the deeper part.
After we got back, we went and did a fine dining experience and we were at the restaurant for 4 1/2 hours!! It was a 6 course meal and it was incredible. I included pics of my food below.
The next morning, we paid for a 3 hour long taxi ride to see some highlights of the island. The Blue Grotto was breathtaking. We also went to the town of M'dina which was the capital city of the island in the medieval times. It was so cool to walk around and I couldn't stop taking pictures!
That evening, we got full body massages again. We were supposed to go parasailing but the boat was broken. We instead enjoyed each other's company with drinks and then we were given a recommendation for dinner. On our way there, we caught the beautiful sunset.

Malta was a great place to visit and enjoy a kid-free vacay! I loved hanging out with these ladies and it was a fabulous 40th bday!
