Ludwigsburg Pumpkin Festival
We enjoyed a chilly, but beautiful day in Ludwigsburg today! They have the world's largest pumpkin festival located in their beautiful city center gardens. This year's theme was music.
These are a couple of the largest pumpkins in Germany!
As we walked by some food trucks, I noticed that they had chips on a stick here. I have never seen that before.
I hadn't anticipated seeing so many amazing sand sculptures!
The sculptures were amazing!
Eli wanted me to get creative with a picture.
We also tried sugar/cinnamon roasted pumpkin seeds. They were yummy!
The gardens also had a bird sanctuary and a small castle.
They even had an old fashioned carousel!
We of course had to try all things pumpkin. Not only did we get the roasted pumpkin seeds, we also got a pumpkin cookie, pie, muffin, soup, and a pasta with pumpkin shavings. We also purchased pumpkin salsa, pumpkin jam, and pumpkin/strawberry jam. We tried a pumpkin drink as well--that we all agreed was awful!!
On the way out we found a playground for the kids to enjoy! It was so neat!
Everywhere we went, these were on the ground. There were also buckeyes everywhere. After some research on the way home, I found out that the "buckeyes" came from inside this spike ball. These are actually horse chestnuts and are poisonous to humans and horses. Germans like to take the nut (the one that looks like a buckeye) and play a game called Conkers.
