Leavin' on a Jet Plane....
We flew out of OAJ and into BWI to catch a military flight into Germany. Because the military flights are not commercial, our luggage was not checked all the way through. I am so grateful, though, because when we got the baggage claim in Baltimore, my suitcase was DRENCHED. Supposedly there was a water bottle in someone's bag that leaked all over mine, but it was brown liquid everywhere. It was so wet that Danny took an Uber and went and bought another suitcase. I was so happy we did that, though, because when we unloaded this suitcase we saw a small leak beginning to happen from a bottle in my suitcase. It hadn't punctured the bag, yet, but it probably would have on the final long flight. This was an exhausting day. We had a 12 hour layover once we got to BWI. We were prepared for this, though, and had the kids go to sleep once we checked in at 9pm and went through security. They slept until we left at 3am the next morning. Another thing that was rough was that the stores and restaurants weren't open due to the time of night and also due to COVID. We sat in the airport from 2:30-9pm with nothing to do. While Danny was out getting a new suitcase, he also got us some food. We were thankful for that. Finally, once we were loaded on the plane, we sat there for another 2 hours! It was awful. Oh and to add to this we had already had on masks for almost 24 hours...with the long flight still ahead of us. I am so grateful that the kids were old enough and entertained themselves. As torturous as those hours were, it was so much easier than when we moved with an 11 month old and 4 year old to Okinawa. Also, even though Sunday and Monday were rough, everything went smoothly. God has answered so many prayers in the last month. We were able to visit family without getting anyone sick and without us getting sick, the packers/movers were wonderful and were on time, only 2 tiny things got mixed up and not sent to storage, no one was sick for our health screenings at the airport, I remembered all of the important items like documents for our flights, etc, etc, etc. I was so grateful for God's protection.
